The GSOP Souhegan
Valley Chapter
is seeing their hard work come to fruition with the October 1st beginning of door-to-door rides to medical appointments
by Nashua Transit System available to residents of Amherst, Brookline, Hollis and Milford. GSOP members are still raising
money to support the transportation service and are
spreading the word
of its availability throughout the month of September. All residents in the four
towns are eligible to use the service, and all riders will be charged a $2.00 fee each way, with vouchers available for free
rides for those who cannot pay.
A new volunteer group
– The Souhegan Valley Transportation Collaborative, will oversee the ride service.
GSOP and the Collaborative would like to thank the Endowment for Health for their support of GSOP’s convening
and planning efforts, the Milford Hospital Association, the Kaley Foundation and numerous individual donors for their generous
support of the transportation project!
Chapter News
Manchester Chapter members have been meeting with local officials, various housing organizations,
public interest attorneys, developers and low income tenants in order to get a clearer picture of rental housing problems
in the area and what role GSOP can play in making necessary changes. We do
know that when the only apartments available to low-income families are pest infested, dirty, and unsafe and in poor repair
that something must change!
Next Manchester Chapter Meeting Tuesday, October 14th
at 6pm St. Anne-St. Augustin Church, 382 Beech Street
Nashua Chapter has been brainstorming
to see what the focus of their work should be, and they have decided that rental housing is also where they should put their
energy. The Nashua Telegraph recently ran an excellent series on the situation,
to which GSOP responded with a letter to the editor outlining our interest.
