On October 19, 2003, with a crowd of over 300 members and friends of GSOP, Sen. John Edwards and Gov. Howard
Dean answered questions presented by GSOP. The questions had previously been sent to all 10 candidates running
for reelection or election for the office of President in 2004.
GSOP had approached each campaign and offered to meet with staff members prior to the October
forum. Campaigns were sent the questions, and a deadline was given for a reply. They were able to meet with
campaign staff of the Gephardt, Kerry, Dean, Edwards, Graham, and Kucinich campaigns.
GSOP conducted phone conversations with a member of the Lieberman campaign, and also spoke to a member of
the staff of Sen. Gregg's office to ensure that there was a conversation with President Bush's campaign.
GSOP attempted to speak to someone from the Braun and Sharpton campaigns, but were unable to find a local contact
or have any success in hearing from national campaign staffs. (General Clark was not a candidate at the time)
Govenor Howard Dean (D-VT) and Senator John Edwards (D-NC) attended the event.
See below for written replies from the candidates:
